Nutrition camps ensures child development
When 2 year old Riya and her mother came to the 3 day nutrition camp organized by IGSSS in Katthad village of Gaya, she hardly weighed 7.14 Kg which is much less for her age. She was diagnosed with Severe Acute Malnutrition. Riya was referred to the local NRC (Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre) for 14 days. By the end of 14 days, her condition improved, and she weighed 8.22 Kg. Nutrition volunteers of IGSSS are regularly visiting Riya and counselling her mother for continuing the intake of required nutrition.
The nutrition camp was attended by 73 lactating and pregnant mothers including children. On the first day of the camp, 33 SAM and MAM (Moderate Acute Malnutrition) 8 other SAM children were also referred to NRC in Gaya whereas 18 MAM children were given Nutrimix (a mix of nutritious food items.
Under the Su-poshan program, IGSSS is organising nutrition camps to identify children suffering from acute and moderate nutrition deficiency. In these camps, mothers are made aware about the importance of nutrition and how they can ensure nutrition to their children from the locally available food. SAM children are referred to NRC.
