Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh: IGSSS youth development unit conducted a campaign on Violence against Women (VAW) towards spreading awareness to address issues of violence against women. Another objective was to disseminate information on varied laws protecting the rights of women.
Youth carrying placards and banners highlighting messages on gender sensitivity organised a peaceful rally with the view to draw attention of the civil Society to bring an end to discrimination and violence against women.It provided a platform for the youth to come out of their customary sensitivity to raise voice publicly against injustice to women.
Representatives from Nehru Yuva Kendra and National Youth Corps called upon the youth to realize their responsibility and be disciplined for others to emulate. They said that youth have to be torchbearers for the greater welfare of the society.
The workshop ended with the youth sharing their experiences about participating in the rally and how it has helped towards understanding the social discrimination meted towards women and how as youth they can use such peaceful tools for public advocacy towards spreading awareness on protective laws and measures to combat violence against women.
