Gaya, Bihar: IGSSS with its partner organisation Samagra Seva Kendra, organised a training on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) technique at Barachetti village. Around 61 farmers from 10 villages Village Action Teams (VAT) and Self Help Groups (SHG) members participated in the training. The training was conducted by Mr. Jairam Prasad, an Agriculture Specialist to promote SRI techniques among the families with less land holding.
In an interactive session, the farmers learnt about Paddy cultivation through SRI system. Along with the details of SRI system, seed treatment, timely sowing of the seedlings, weeding were also discussed in details. Discussion primarily focussed on using SRI technique for paddy and wheat cultivation. It was further shared that this method could be effectively used for vegetable production as well.
The farmers shared that the training helped them to understand that in the changing ground realities, this technique will help them improve their productivity.
The System of Rice Intensification (SRI) is a methodology aimed at increasing the yield of rice produced in farming. It is a low water, labor intensive and organic method of farming.
