Winter has never been easy for people living on streets. Every year, people die of cold; homeless people, migrant laborers and people living on roads are the worst affected.  Between 2002 and 2012, as many as 10,740 people died from exposure to cold and avalanche. That means on an average over 800 people suffered every year.* Between the January of 2004 and 2018 (till January 6), as many as 40,633 unidentified bodies were found on city roads.**  (Source- Internet)

Indo- Global Social Service Society (IGSSS), annual winter campaign has been running since last five years to provide comfort and warmth to the people living on the streets and struggling to survive harsh winters of Delhi / NCR. IGSSS has been highlighting winters as an ignored disaster for the people who have nowhere to go.

We truly believe that it’s not the just the cold but lack of support that kills people.

As part of the campaign, IGSSS staff carries out the night vigil from the month of December to January, to rescue homeless residents living on streets and refer them to the nearest night shelters set up by Government.

We firmly believes that having nutritious food in winter is very essential as it provides strength to face cold weather and hence nutritious food items like jaggery, chana and dates are distributed to homeless residents living on streets and shelter homes.
