Reported By : Ms.Milan Mandanna, Assistant Manager – Disaster Risk Reduction
West Bengal : Naren Sarkar is an agricultural labourer in Kantabagan village. When West Bengal was hit by severe floods following cyclone komen, the strong currents of the Ichchamati River, swept away his mud hut.
Compelled by the disaster situation, Naren along with his wife Parul fled their house and took shelter in Kantabagan School. For almost 15 days, Naren had no work and no certainty as to when he would get one.
Apalled by the condition of the family, IGSSS selected Parul as a beneficiary for their relief support. The couple is extremely happy to receive the kits distributed as part of the emergency humanitarian assistance. The relief items included solar light, soap, soap case, water filter, NADCC tabs, tarpaulin and mosquito. The relief support has helped to a significant extent towards addressing the concerns of the family during the emergency situation.
