Chennai, Tamilnadu: Towards the end of last November, Chennai experienced one of the worst floods in 100 years causing mass devastation. The deluge has rendered many homeless and especially caused destruction in the lives of the urban poor. Around, 50,000 homes of families belonging to economically weaker sections were badly damaged by the floods.
IGSSS with the support of Bank of America (BOA) and Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) launched a flood Rehabilitation project named Udayam which aims to reach out to 17 rural villages and 2 urban slums of Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Chennai districts in Tamilnadu The project will support in building resilience and preparedness of socially marginalized and at – risk communities by supporting shelter repair, alternative livelihood opportunities , education aid, health awareness and disaster preparedness.
