Task Force Training in Disaster Preparedness with NDRF

Reported By: Eshani Choudhury, Project Coordinator, Lakhimpur

Task Force Training

Dhemaji, Assam:  As reported by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 88,000 people are currently reeling under flood in 257 villages across Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Nagaon, Jorhat, Golaghat, Morigaon and Biswanath districts of Assam.

This reality is a part of Assam’s life, as every year the monsoons wreak havoc in the state resulting into flood and causing enormous damage to life and livelihood. As a pre understanding of the perennial problem, IGSSS in collaboration with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) organized a community disaster preparedness programme.

The key components of the training included lessons on First Aid, Search and Rescue, Family Level Disaster Preparedness and Water Emergency through practical demonstrations.  The community shared that such trainings are much needed as it helps build their skill to cope with the disaster situations and requested for more such trainings to be conducted.
