Chandrapur, Maharashtra: As part of the livelihood intervention Sustainable Options for Uplifting Livelihood (SOUL) , LSSS, one of the partner organization of IGSSS organized the exposure visit. The purpose was to encourage the women to undertake income generation activities as alternate livelihood opportunities.
The visit opened up space for discussion on varied aspects of SHG such as understanding the concept, meaning and importance of women federation. Roles and responsibilities of the SHGs, Gram Sabha meetings and its significance for the women SHG members to participate in the development process of the villages and also in critical functioning of the group. Importance of capacity building of the group members which would help in correspondence with representatives of the Government departments and also towards accessing bank loans to start income generation initiatives.
The group was then taken to Adarsh Mahila Sangh at Piparda village to provide them insight on Income Generation Programme (IGP) undertaken the federation which included demonstration of vermi compost production, goat and poultry farming and management of ration shops. The women SHG members found the visit to be very inspiring when they met fellow women in other villages successfully leading federations, growing and driving change in their own villages.
