Ahmedabad: As part of employee engagement initiative, IGSSS western region team organized half a day programme with children from slum areas of Thajtej area.
Mr. Malik who is child rights activist began the day singing songs with children which conveyed messages of child rights. When enquired about their understanding on the issue of child rights, the children shared innovative insights such as that every child should have the right to education, no child should go hungry even a single day, every child should have a safe childhood, there should be a ‘Home’ for every child and they should get spaces to talk and express themselves.
Besides, the insightful discussion on child rights as expressed by children, Mr.Malik too took the opportunity to share about the significant components of child rights as guaranteed lawfully. This includes –
- Right to Survival – with dignity and to be able to access basic needs
- Right to Protection – against discrimination
- Right to Development- their right to learn, education
- Right to Participation – their opinion is equally important in taking any decision for their life.
The programme ended with cultural programme by children.
