Approximately 17 lakh people are reeling under severe floods in Assam. Around 2500 villages across 24 districts are submerged and 1.06 lakh hectares worth of cropland damaged.
Heavy rainfall has caused death, landslides, blockade of highways and erosion of embankments. Roads, bridges, houses and crops are washed away by the flood water. People are in crisis with no roof over their head, no food supplies and rendered helpless due to complete breakdown of transportation and all forms of communication.
Our Emergency Response team is on ground. Presently, we are responding to the two of the worst affected districts of the state – Lakhimpur and Dhemaji.
